Clyde was born on December 30, 1913, in Oronogo, Missouri to Ada Walker Smith and Arthur Smith. He had lived in Port Arthur since 1933 and was a member of the Church of Christ and was a faithful Christian man. Clyde loved to go fishing and was an avid gardener and was quite a handy man and a jack of all trades; whether it was rebuilding cars or building a house from scratch, Clyde could fix anything or build whatever you needed. He was a first class machinist with Texaco for over forty years until he retired. Clyde was very well respected by his family, everyone loved him dearly, and he will be missed by all who knew him.
Clyde was preceded in death by his loving wife of seventy years; Opal Faye Henson Smith who passed away in 2005. Survivors include his three devoted daughters, Jo Nell Jensen and her husband Bill of Nederland, Faye Stanley and her husband David of Lumberton and Carol Snapp and her husband Frank of Leander, Texas; brother, Al Smith of Shawnee, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Kristy Cleveland, Terry Stanley, Todd Snapp and Kelley Pittman; eleven great grandchildren, Kade Scott Stanley, Savannah Nicole Stanley, Colton Glenn Cleveland, Bradon Smith Cleveland, Andrew Graham Snapp, Brady Michael Snapp, Lucy Caroline Snapp, Jenna Elise Snapp, Franklin Arthur Pittman, Molly Clara Pittman and Gram Oliver Pittman.
A gathering of friends and family will take place from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Saturday, November 20, 2010, at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home in Port Arthur. A Chapel service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 20, 2010, at with burial to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves, Texas.
