It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Beverly T. Smith, age 81, of Chicago, Illinois, who departed this life on Tuesday, August 27, 2024. Beverly was a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, who touched the lives of many with her kindness, faith, and dedication to others.
Born to Raymond Thomas and Anna Thomas, Beverly was a woman of remarkable strength and resilience. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robbie J. Smith, with whom she shared many beautiful years. Together, family was the center of Beverly’s world.
Beverly is survived by her loving children: daughters Elain Philpott, Donna Reue, and Yvonne Hines and her son Carlos Montalvo. She is also mourned by her dear sister, Barbara Thomas. Beverly’s legacy lives on through her ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, who will carry forward the love and wisdom she imparted to them. She is also remembered by her two loving cats, "Momma Kitty" and "Two Dot," who brought her great comfort and companionship.
A dedicated nurse by profession, Beverly had a passion for caring for others. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her career, as she found joy in cooking for family and friends, bringing people together around her table. Beverly was a woman of deep faith, a strong woman of God who lived her life guided by her spiritual beliefs.
In her early years, Beverly had the unique opportunity to travel the world, a privilege that enriched her life with experiences and stories she cherished. Those who knew her were blessed by her warmth, her strength, and her unwavering devotion to her loved ones. She devoted her life to living by the examples taught at St. Ann's Catholic school and the American University of Beirut in Lebanon.
A Gathering of family and friends to honor Beverly’s life will be held on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home, located at 4841 39th Street, Port Arthur, TX 77642. A Celebration of her life will follow from 2:00 PM with burial to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
Beverly’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew her, but her memory will forever be a source of comfort and inspiration. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the love and faith she instilled in her family and friends.
