Tommy was born with moxie ‘behind first and with a tooth’ and to be born a ‘Pearce’ was to be able to pack away plates of food like a champion and Tommy was born for it; He always loved this story and it left his siblings a little envious that he could do this and not gain an ounce of weight.
During Tommy’s earlier years he enjoyed playing street hockey and softball with his Baby Brother Teddy and closest friends. If ever they were down a player they would pull in Tommy’s Little Sister Tammy too by Tying Goalie Pads made of old couch cushions on her and putting her in net; there were many days spent hanging out and playing outside until the street lights came on.
Tommy was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed his hikes whether it be going fishing, picking mushrooms or just being out in nature. He often took photos of wildlife while out on his adventures. When not out and about he could be found watching UFC, the Newest Movies and Comedy Shows on TV; Tommy also loved everything Science and Fantasy Fiction.
Tommy gained a Big Brother, Robb Schwindt, when Robb and Tommy’s Sister Sharon were married. It was through Robb that Tommy found work as a Roofer for Tony Vanschie Roofing. Tommy learned excellent work ethics through this family roofing company and thrived as a roofer for around 30 years until the business came to an end. Tony stated “Tommy was the best roofer he ever had or seen.”
Tommy was an amazing artist too and put out some impressive pieces from a very young age although his canvas was at times unconventional (his big sister Sharon’s bedroom wall for one) they were still pretty awesome. He made several pieces for his family and friends and some that never got shared. One piece in particular Tommy mentioned several times that he left some of his art work on a roofing job on a house on the upper part of Morton Street. So one day, if and when it comes time for a new roof on that house, someone will find something Special during tear off and we hope that when that time comes they might share it in such a fashion that we may catch a glimpse of it as well.
Tommy also loved to get around by bicycle until workplace injuries halted many of Tommy’s favourite activities but his injuries never stopped him from enjoying the many Rock Concerts and Hockey Games he attended with his favourite people. Some of those events were of course enjoyed before his injuries but they included AC/DC, Kiss, Ozzy Osbourne, Scorpions, Metallica, Alice Cooper and Vancouver Canucks Games. Tommy and Bill Mcrae also saw the first Molson Indy in Vancouver BC together.
Tommy had many friends in his life and had a few close friends he called Brothers and it was his closest Brother Bill Mcrae that he last lived with along with his Canine Fur Baby Taz. Tommy’s other closest friend was his Mother. They not only shared a few residents during his adult years but they shared a bond that kept them close by visits together and phone calls ‘every’ day.
It was the loss of our Father and more so our Mother that made Tommy’s recent diagnosis, of a Rare Adult Type One Diabetes, extremely difficult for him to manage, especially being a Pearce.
