Shirley was born on November 21st, 1939, in Port Alberni, BC. She was the oldest of 6 siblings; Judy, Linda, Ray, Harold, and Bill.
Shirley met Wilfred (Wilf) Antonichuk at a dance in Nanaimo, who became the love of her life. Shortly after, the two of them got married in 1961, and had their 4 beautiful children; Kelly, Shane, Colleen, and Scott.
Briefly in her career, Shirley worked as a telephone operator before becoming a stay at home mom to her 4 children. As she danced her way through life, she was known by many for her love of cookies, chocolate, bingo nights, and gardening. Almost everyone who came over knew to head straight to her cookie jar for homemade cookies.
She was a bright shining star in all the lives that she crossed. Shirley loved to entertain with her closest friends, as well as playing cards. She was a kindhearted woman who cared dearly for others. Primarily, her grandchildren, whenever they needed a sitter/day care; she was always there. Her grandchildren grew up knowing her home was theirs as well. Shirley taught them how to bake their favourite cookies with her, and many other cherished memories.
Shirley loved being a grandma, mom, and a friend to those. She was always an ear to listen, and loved going to lunch or shopping with us. She was thoughtful in trying to help in anyway she could with what we might need. As adults, having her children stop by after work each day to gather for a quick visit and coffee was one of her favourite moments. The coffee pot was always ready and the cookie jar always full. Our friends were always welcome and were treated as her own.
Living at home became challenging for Shirley; she was fortunate enough to get into Fir Park Village where she felt so loved and taken care of. She truly enjoyed her time there and constantly expressed her appreciation and gratitude.
