Petrus "Peter" Josephus Huysmans

Peter was born in Achthuizen , Holland and immigrated to the Alberni Valley in 1951, where he found work at the Franklin River logging camp. In 1953 he began working at the Somass mill where he stayed until his retirement in 1992.

He is mourned by his loving wife Corrie, with whom he recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary, and his children: Doreen (Gordy), Don (Yuko), Jim, Ken (Sharlyn), John and Marion (John).

He is survived by his brother John (Jane) of Port Alberni, and in Holland his brother Toon (Tiny), sisters: Lien and Door, and his brothers & sisters in law: Piet (Riet), Lia, Wim (Thea) and Tiny. He will also be greatly missed by his many dear friends amongst his fellow immigrants, who became each others’ family here.

Also missing their Opa are his grandchildren: Rob (Tammy), Brent (Renata), Peter (Jen), Pete (Tonia), Donny (Dawn), James (Krista), Ashley, Jack, Finn and his great grandchildren: Teigen, Finnegan, Taryn, Palmer, Ocean, Autumn & Lucas.

A celebration of Life will take place at 2:00pm on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at the Chapel of Memories Funeral Home, 4005 6th Avenue. Cremation has taken place.
