of 75. He is survived by his loving wife, Sandra; daughters Karla (Alex) and Krista
(Matt), brothers Fritz (Fay) and Horst; nephew Scot and nieces Meagan and Carmen,
and their families; and other relatives in Canada, U.S.A. and Germany.
In 1952, the Zens family fled their farm in East Germany and migrated to Atikokan,
Ontario to start a new life. They had a happy and productive life in Canada, being able
to raise and educate the boys.
After attending University of Manitoba and teaching for 3 years in Thunder Bay, Peter
attended the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Toronto. In 1973 he graduated and
he and Sandra moved to Port Alberni so he could join his brother, Fritz in the practice of
Dentistry. He enjoyed his work, particularly the interaction with his patients and the
support of his staff.
Peter was very productive in his personal life. He had many hobbies and talents. He
had a passion for gardening and landscaping. He was also very proficient at
woodworking and building rock walls. One only has to walk through any part of Peter's
world to see the fruits of his labours. He enjoyed travelling and hiking and felt very
close to nature. He had a particularly keen interest in current events and politics and
welcomed any opportunities for lively discussions. "Your world is as big or as small as
you make it." he often said.
In accordance with Peter's wishes there will be no public service. In lieu of flowers or
charitable donations, plant something, do a good deed, or take a friend for coffee or
lunch. Enjoy and embrace life.
