On Sunday, July 2, 2023, our Mother and Oma died in her sleep, in her bed at home, surrounded by family. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Erhard Delau. She leaves behind her two children, Rick and Katy (John), and one grandchild, Solon.
Marg was born in the Comox hospital, and grew up on the family farm in Merville, B.C. Growing up with 4 brothers and one sister, she developed a thick skin, and a great sense of humour. She met her husband at the weekly dances at the Merville Hall. They married in 1957, and shortly after moved to Port Alberni. Here they raised their two children, and enjoyed life as part of a strong circle of German-Canadians.
Marg enjoyed many sports, both playing and watching. Bowling, tennis, slow pitch, hockey, and floor curling. She was a big volunteer with the Echo Sunshine Club, and she also served as a Tourism Ambassador on the Frances Barkley for many years. She was an avid traveller, visiting many countries and US states. She loved the heat and sun, and spent time in Cuba, Mexico, South Africa, South America, and Europe.
Marg was a force to be reckoned with, and was much loved. She will be always missed.
A service will be held to honour her at the Grace Lutheran Church at 4408 Redford Street, Port Alberni on July 15, 2023 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may made to Ty Watson House in Port Alberni, if you wish.
