Predeceased by her husband Douglas in 2001 and daughter Hazel in 1951; Betty is survived by daughters Joan Williams & Pamela (Wayne) Harris and son Philip (Irene), grandchildren: Paul, Rachel, Nathan, Carla, Fiona, Jesse, Dylan, Elizabeth and Jennifer and 12 great-grandchildren; one sister Kathleen Jordan and nieces and nephews in England.
Betty moved to Canada with Doug upon retirement, settled in Cherry Creek and soon became involved in many aspects of the community: carpet bowling, lawn bowling, fishing and gardening. Betty was renowned for her home cooked lunches of soup & fruit pies at the lawn bowling competitions. She loved the outdoors, going for walks around the dyke or around the Echo centre, usually with her canine companion.
Abbeyfield was her home for the last 18 mos. She made many friends there and we would like to thank them & Orlando for making her feel so welcome. Thank you also to Drs Martin & Craven and the nurses at West Coast General Hospital for their care and concern. A Service of Remembrance will be held May 29, 2010 at 2:00pm at Chapel of Memories Funeral Home, 4005 6th Avenue, Port Alberni, British Columbia. In lieu of flowers donations made to the Abbeyfield Residents Society 3839 8th Avenue, Port Alberni, British Columbia V9Y 8J6 or the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) 5055 Joyce Street #100, Vancouver, BC V5R 6B2 would be appreciated.
