Jill’s love of the arts began at an early age when she took up ballet at the tender age of 6 years old. She continued her life long passion of dance until her final recital with the Pat Cummings School of Dance in May 2001. Jill moved from Victoria to Port Alberni with her husband Al in 1963, where they raised their 4 children. Jill lived life to the fullest and soon became involved in many activities in the community of Port Alberni. Tap, Jazz, Scottish country dance, local theatre, Barclay Sounds, Sunshine Club, Writing Club and photography were just a few of the arts that Jill enjoyed. She was an original member of the Port Alberni Dragon Boat Club, Council Member for Christ the King Lutheran Church, owner of Happy Day Pre-School, book club, curling, floor curling, aerobics, PAGO Grannies, Sunshine Club, rhythmic gymnastics instructor for Special Olympics, Rollin Art Centre gardener to name a few.
Jill loved tending to her garden and appreciated all creatures of nature. She was a strong advocate for buying local and the 100 Mile challenge.
Jill was a friend to all and a mentor to many. Jill and Al had an active social life with many friends and loved to have a good laugh. She treated others as she wanted to be treated. Most importantly, Jill loved spending time with her family. Whether it be the family get -togethers for dinner or walks on the Log Train Trail, Jill was happiest when her “clan” was spending time together.
The family would like to thank Dr. Daryl Lund for his kindness and caring of Jill through her journey with cancer. We would also like to thank the wonderful staff at WCGH, you were so supportive and caring.
A funeral service will be held at the Alberni Athletic Hall on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at 1:00pm. Tea to follow. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Jill’s memory to the BC Cancer Foundation, 2410 Lee Avenue, Victoria, BC V8R 6V5.
