Dr. Gerald Roderick Trees

1964 - 2019

It is with great sadness that we announce that Gerald passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, July 28, 2019 at the age of 55 in Port Alberni, BC. Predeceased by his mother Carol Ronk. Survived by his loving wife of 33 years Julie Trees; children Alisha (Lance) Roberts, Katie (Cody Stevens) Trees and Sheldon (Taylor) Trees; grandchildren Blake and Liam; father Ron J. (Jan) Trees; brothers Timothy Trees, Craig (Lynette) Trees and Jake Trees. Gerald also leaves behind many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many great friends.

Gerald was born in Ontario, Oregon, where he spent his childhood. Graduating from the Southern California College of Optometry in 1989, Gerald moved to Canada with his wife Julie the same year to pursue his career. Gerald was well known in the Alberni Valley as an optometrist at IRIS, as well as being an active member in the community. He was a minor hockey coach for many years and was involved in BMX racing all over Vancouver Island. Gerald was also a member of the Hockey Association and the Rotary Club. As a father, he was very involved and spent many years travelling with his children to hockey and lacrosse tournaments, as well as figure skating competitions. Gerald was a very proud grandfather to his two grandsons and adored spending quality time with them. Gerald's passions included motorcycles, hiking, exploring, travelling and spending as much time with his friends and family as possible.

Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00pm on Sunday, August 18, 2019 at the Alberni Athletic Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations in Gerald's memory may be made to the Gerald Trees Memorial Fund for the People of Peru Project.
