George is survived by his daughters Cheryl Sim and Anita Grubisich (Lance), grandchildren Carly Vesaranta (Jesse), Erik Vesaranta (Audrey), Ashley Grubisich (Colten), Joelene Grubisich (Kerrick), great grandson August James Neuwirth and brother Collin Sim (Joanne) as well as numerous nephews. He was predeceased by his loving wife Sonja, his parents John and Ruby Sim and brothers John, Harold, Ken and Donald.
George was born and raised in Port Alberni and it was here that he also married his wife and raised his own family. He worked as a logger for many years and then became a power saw mechanic for Sproat Lake Division. It was after some company layoffs that George continued sharing his mechanical expertise with several repair shops within Port Alberni. He loved to tinker in his shop even after retiring and could fix almost anything you put in front of him. George had a kind heart and the gift of gab and made many friends over the years and would help anyone and ask for nothing in return. He was a wonderful and devoted husband, father and grandfather and was beyond thrilled to become a great grandfather. George will be greatly missed by us all but will once again be together with the love of his life, Sonja.
The family would like to thank the amazing nurses, care aides and staff at Rainbow Gardens for the extraordinary care that was given to Dad during his time there. Thanks also to Dr. Johan Smit for taking over Dad’s care when De. De Witt retired.
If so desired donations can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association in George’s memory.
