Sven "Swede" Hallgren

Mr. Hallgren was born September 5, 1929 in Gotland, Sweden to Frans Hallgren and Alfhild Vicstrom Hallgren. At 14 years of age, he joined the Merchant Marine and eventually settled in Louisiana. During the 1960’s he owned and operated Swede’s Diesel Service in Venice, LA and moved to Poplarville, MS in 1969. Throughout the 1970’s he operated Wiggins Diesel Service in Wiggins, MS. He was a faithful member of Silver Run Baptist Church. He enjoyed raising thoroughbred horses, playing the accordion and piano; bowling; and above all spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Shirleen Davis Hallgren; one son, Sven Tomas Frans Hallgren, Jr.; nine brothers and sisters.

Family members include his wife, Laura Nan Rester Hallgren; three daughters, Rosalind Hallgren Devlin (Jim), Wendy Hallgren Roberts (Wayne), Stacey Hallgren Wood (David); four stepson, Mike Rester (Lisa), Randy Rester (Lisa), Curtis Rester (Kaye), Dale Rester (Lisa); four grandchildren, Samuel Wayne Roberts, Jr. (Jennifer), Shirleen Whitney Roberts Sullivan (Bubba), Christine Amber Wood, Rachel Elizabeth Wood; six great grandchildren, Hannah, Lexie, Sam, and Aiden Roberts, Ty and Ryleigh Sullivan; six step-grandchildren, Derrik, Jared, Taylor, Brandy, Austin, and Bailey; two step-great grandchildren, Ransyn and Dekin; one brother and three sisters who reside in Sweden.

Funeral services will be at Silver Run Baptist Church, 2865 Silver Run Road, Poplarville, MS, 39470 on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at 2:00 pm. Rev. Quentin McCardle, Rev. Willie Oldenquist, and Dr. Stan Davis will officiate. Burial will follow in Howard Cemetery, Poplarville. The family will receive friends and have visitation from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm, Friday at the church.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Roberts, David Wood, Jim Devlin, Wayne Roberts, Jr., Bubba Sullivan, and Jared Rester.

Honorary pallbearers will be Rex Hester, Dale Lee, Prentiss Dedeaux, J.B. Dedeaux, Darren Dedeaux, W.A. McCardle, Joe Gonzales, Paul Duplantis, Curt Howard, and Jim Rabby.
