James Martin "Jay" Stevens passed away at the age of 73 on Sunday, March 26, 2023 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. He was born in Yellowstone, Montana to Homer and Viola Stevens. After high school he joined the United States Navy and proudly served his country as a Vietnam Veteran. Jay took what he learned in the military and college to lead a successful career as an Electronics Technician at Stennis Space Center for 42 years. Outside of work and continuing his education, he enjoyed spending time with his family, marksmanship and archery, and was a Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America Troop 280.
Jay is preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Viola Olson Stevens; one son, Jesse James Larsen; grandson Eric larsen; and one sister, Judy Stevens. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 47 years, Mrs. Lynda kay Stevens; four sons, Jerry Larsen, Jimmy Larsen, Ryan Stevens and Jason Stevens; three brothers, Charles Stevens (Karen), Joe Stevens (Terri) and John Michael Stevens (Kathy); two sisters, Jan Stevens and Paula Stevens-Autin; 29 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at White Funeral Home in Poplarville on Thursday, March 30, 2023 with a visitation from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM and funeral service to follow in our chapel. A graveside service will immediately follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Poplarville.
