David W. Moore of Poplarville, Mississippi departed this life into God’s presence on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at the age of 76 after succumbing to a medical emergency while serving in the line of duty.
David was born to Ealy and Shirley Grantham Moore on October 25, 1946, in Wiggins, Mississippi.
After graduating high school, he served in the United States Army and was a proud alumnus of The University of Alabama. David embarked on a successful career as an electrical engineer before venturing into law enforcement. He became a Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Deputy, exemplifying his commitment to safeguarding his community. In 2005, David joined the Pearl River County Emergency Operations Center as the Communications Officer, utilizing his expertise to ensure seamless communication during critical times.
David’s passion for serving others extended to the Northeast Volunteer Fire Department, where he played an instrumental role as both Assistant Chief and Chief. His leadership and unwavering dedication were vital in ensuring the safety and well-being of his community. Later, he assumed the role of Deputy Coroner for the Pearl River County Coroner’s Office, demonstrating compassion and empathy during difficult moments for families.
David’s selflessness, warmth and unwavering work ethic touched the lives of countless individuals throughout his life. He will be dearly missed by family, friends and colleagues alike, leaving behind cherished memories that will forever remain in our hearts.
He is preceded by his parents, Ealy and Shirley Moore.
Left to forever cherish his memory are his wife of 22 years, Christie Stockstill Moore; his daughters, Nicole Higgins of Lafayette, LA and Heather Hernandez (Stephen) Weyant of Valrico, FL; his sons, Bryan Moore of Duson, LA, Eli Moore of Lafayette, LA and Jacob Hernandez of Norfolk, VA; his grandchildren, Aile (Jude) Bernard, Ian Abshire, Emma Higgins, Ariella Weyant and Weston Weyant; great-grandchildren, Maddox Bernard and Greyson Bernard and his spoiled rotten Doberman, Bruno Buras Moore.
David leaves behind a legacy of kindness, dedication and service.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2023, at 11:00 at College Heights Baptist Church, 217 Highway 11 North, Poplarville, MS, officiated by Reverend Michael Brown. Friends and colleagues are invited to join his family at 9:00 A.M. until service time for visitation and fellowship.
In lieu of flowers, the Moore family ask that contributions be made to the David W. Moore Memorial Fund at BankPlus. All contributions will be dispersed to charities and passion projects that David loved and supported.
