Charles Leon “Charlie/Potty” Matthews, of Poplarville, Mississippi, passed from this life into God’s presence on Sunday, January 7, 2024, at the age of 67. He was born in Evansville, Indiana to Charles and Mary “Mimi” Matthews on February 19, 1956.
Charlie spent the early part of his career working offshore for J. Ray McDermott as a Tower Operator and later went on to be a Pipefitter for Republic Refrigeration until he medically retired. He and the love of his life, Diane, settled down in Poplarville, MS and called it home. Charlie was a people person and was known for his caring heart, contagious laugh, and loving smile. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his loved ones and loved them all dearly.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Joyce A. Hebert Matthews; his brother, Gene Matthews; and his granddaughter, Mary E. Thompson.
Left to forever cherish his memory are his loving wife of 42 years, Sheila “Diane” Tassin Matthews; his daughter, Shannon L. Matthews; his son, Jonathan “J.P.” Tassin (Jenni); his grandchildren, Cody L. McMahan (Chloe Smith); Brayden A. Tassin (Ava Losch); and Macie M. Tassin; and two great-grandchildren, Emma M. Poche and Sutter H. Smith; his brother, Tim Matthews (Kathy); his sister, Linda Murphy (Bill, preceded in death); and several nephews and nieces.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2023, from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM at St. Peter Cemetery, 1550 LA-44, Reserve, Louisiana, 70084. Friends are invited to join the family and fellowship at the Knights of Columbus (KC) Hall (114 West 7th Street, Reserve, LA, 70084) directly across the street from St. Peter Church from 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM.
