Mr. Hatfield was the fifth of six children born to Dee A. and Annie Pruitt Hatfield on December 5, 1938 in New London, Texas. He was a retired welder with Penrod Drilling and Ensco Drilling Companies, retiring after 45 years of service. He loved to fish, garden, hunt, and work with his tractor. Above all, he was a loving, devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by the love of his life, Ophelia Cobb Hatfield after 47 years of marriage; siblings, Robert (Jessie) Hatfield, Maxine (Howard) Smith, Paul (Ruth) Hatfield, and Gean (Frank) Smith.
Family members include four children, Esther (Zack) Odom of McHenry, MS, Daniel (Lisa) Hatfield, Dawn (Dwayne) Varnado, Jonathan (Ursula) Hatfield, all of Poplarville, MS; one sister, Jo Ann (Rudy) Bassinger of Ringgold, LA; grandchildren, Blake, April, Heidi, Kegon, Nathan, Hannah, Chrystal, Samantha, Ashley, Eli, Kyle; six great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at College Heights Baptist Church (217 Highway 11 North, Poplarville, MS, 39470) on Saturday, April 17th, 2021 at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends and have visitation from 6:00 pm until 9:00, Friday at the church.
