Barbara was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. As a child Barbara never knew a stranger. She was very inquisitive and talked to everyone. As a teenager in the early 50’s, she taught roller skating at Jefferson Playground. It was there where she met the love of her life, Kenneth John Pertuit. They married twelve days before her 18th birthday on July 14, 1957.
Kenneth & Barbara lived in Marrero, Louisiana for 15 years. They enjoyed traveling and taking trips in their camper with their children. They enjoyed camping so much they moved to Poplarville, Mississippi in 1972 to pursue their dream of owning their own campground.
After her children were raised, Barbara began a career as a bank teller at Hancock Bank. She loved her work and enjoyed getting to meet new people every day. She loved getting to know her customers and soon knew everyone in town.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 46 years, Kenneth John Pertuit; parents, Samuel Belcher, Sr., and Pearl Zeller Belcher; infant daughter, Erin Pertuit, and one brother, Samuel Belcher, Jr.
Barbara leaves to cherish her memory to her three children, Catherine Pertuit Gersh (Harvey Allen), Deborah Pertuit Radelat (Monte) and Danny Pertuit (Cheryl); six grandchildren, Monica Radelat Cook (Bobby), Jamie Gersh Gamboa (Rafael), Jacob Gersh, Shawn Radelat (Shannon), Kristina Pertuit Jones (Aeron) and Victoria Pertuit Spiers (Cody); one great-grandson, Bentley Duncan; one sister, Joycelyn Belcher Wallis (Henry); one brother, Roland Belcher (Elsa); one sister-in-law, Mamie Belcher, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Barbara’s family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the physicians and staff of The Grove in Columbia, Columbia & FGH Dialysis Units, Hattiesburg Clinic, Forrest General Hospital, and the Asbury Hospice House.
Family and friends are invited to attend Barbara's Funeral Service on Friday, October 6, 2023, at 3:00 pm at White Funeral Home, 315 Hwy 11 South, Poplarville, MS. Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm. Burial to follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, 154 Garrett and McGill Drive, Poplarville, Mississippi.
Pallbearers will be Jacob Gersh, Aeron Jones, Cody Spiers, Kevin Belcher, Chad Klees, and Tony Martin.
Memorials can be made in Barbara’s name to the MS Kidney Foundation, American Cancer Society, or The Alzheimer Association - MS Chapter.
