Pontotoc, MS- Sarah Alice Henry Young, 91, passed away on Sunday, October 29, 2023, at her residence in Pontotoc, MS. She was born September 23, 1932, to Alfred Allen Henry and Mary Anna Mitchell Henry in Randolph, MS.
Sarah was a faithful, humble and devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. A devoted wife of a naval officer, she grew her family while following her husband to Jacksonville, FL; Batesville, MS; Fulton, MS; Starkville, MS; Jackson, MS; Obion, TN; Mobile, AL; and ultimately her home in Pontotoc, MS. Once settled in Pontotoc, Sarah joined West Heights Baptist Church in 1963 where she remained a member until her passing. She treasured her Sunday School friendships and enjoyed the many home and phone visits she received. She found ultimate comfort and peace in the Gospel that was faithfully taught by her local pastors.
Her true passion was loving and caring for her family. Sarah was a loving mother of six cherished children, 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. As a devoted, hard working mother, she created a home of warmth and love. She taught her family the importance of dedication and resilience. In addition to providing for her family at home, she supported them working at Kuhn’s Dollar Store and Ram Golf. She was an avid gardener and transplanted flowers from the 1800s brought from North Carolina by her ancestors. Sarah found her greatest joy in visits from her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved cooking a true southern cuisine, including vegetables straight from her garden. It was an honor for her to serve meals to friends and family at her table and delight in their satisfaction. Sarah will be remembered for her selfless generosity and loving heart.
