Katherine Inmon Ard, age 88, died Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at Graceland Care Center in Pontotoc, after a long illness. She was born in November 1923 to Buford and Lillie Zachary Inmon in Pontotoc and graduated from Pontotoc High School in 1940. She married Elton Russell Ard in 1945 and had a baby girl on her husband’s 28th birthday in 1948. The Ards lived in various cities across the U.S., including Spokane, WA, Cheyenne, WY, Memphis, TN and Macon, GA. The couple returned to Pontotoc after her husband’s retirement from civilian employment with the U.S. Air Force in 1972. She was an accomplished artist and gardener and was a long-time member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She was a member of West Heights Baptist Church for many years.
Services will be at 2 PM Sunday, June 24, 2012 at West Heights Baptist Church with Dr. David Hamilton and Rev. Dan Young officiating; burial will follow in the Springville Cemetery. Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by her daughter: Eleyce A. Usery and husband Melvin of Fernandina Beach, FL, a sister: Opal Godwin of Decatur, GA, a brother: Lamar Inmon of Pottstown, PA and her oldest granddaughter Laurie Morrissey of Washington, DC.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 57 years, sisters: Elsie McMillen and Lostine Fortner and her youngest granddaughter Kimberly Usery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 PM Saturday at the funeral home and from 1 to 2 PM Sunday at the church.
