Henry Clay Rodgers, age 93, died Thursday, June 23, 2011 at Graceland Care Center in New Albany. He was a charter member of West Heights Baptist Church, a retired rural letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, a WWII Marine Veteran and a member of the American Legion Post 16. He was an avid deer hunter and enjoyed fishing, and a devoted father and friend.
Services will be at 3 PM Sunday, June 26, 2011 at West Heights Baptist Church with Dr. David Hamilton and Rev. Ryan Rodgers officiating, and Martin Rodgers will deliver the eulogy. Burial will follow in the West Heights Cemetery. Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his two daughters: Peggy Lynn Rodgers (Gloria Lanoux) of Pontotoc, MS and Betty Gail Kirk of Ripley, MS; his son: Billy Clay Rodgers (Rhonda) of Pontotoc, MS; four grandchildren: Charles “Chuck” Kirk III (Kristie), Brennan Kirk (Melissa), Martin Rodgers (Jennifer) and Ryan Rodgers, and six great grandchildren: Dustin Schaefer, Duncan Schaefer, Andrew Mitchell Rodgers, Rebecca Grace Rodgers, Caleb Kirk and Olivia Joy Kirk; several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, a host of nieces and nephews and his caregiver: Margaret Bynum.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Henry Lake Rodgers and Freddie Harriett Bouchillon Rodgers; his wife: Janice Charlene Rodgers; a granddaughter Jannelyn Kirk Schaefer; a sister: Louise Rodgers Bland and his two brothers: Whitson Rodgers and Harry Kenneth Rodgers.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 PM Saturday at the funeral home and from 2 to 3 PM Sunday at West Heights Baptist Church.
