Faye Marguerette Robbins passed away peacefully during the early hours of October 23rd, 2024, at the age of 94. She was born June 11, 1930 to William Mayes Jarrett and Mary Elizabeth (Gullick) Jarrett and was one of nine children. She attended Hurricane High School and later married another Hurricane native, Winston Ralph Robbins, on October 9, 1948. Together they had three children, Mitchell Keith Robbins, Donna Ruth Roye (Donny), and Jerry Quay Robbins (Julie) who they raised in Hurricane, and later, Tupelo.
Faye worked at Wal-Mart for 20 years in the fabric department and as a Customer Service Manager, where her name tag read “Faye Hun,” a name lovingly given to her by her coworkers. She also routinely cleaned the bathrooms because she thought it wasn’t being done well enough by the staff assigned that duty. After retiring, she spent her time doting on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, cleaning, doing laundry and other household chores at her childrens’ homes without asking first, keeping every belly around her full, and adopting her first and only inside dog, Keely. Keely’s waistline would never recover from her new diet.
Faye drank her coffee with cream and sugar, liked her tea sweet, and served both cornbread and biscuits with every dinner. She had a large vegetable garden every year, where she grew purple hull peas, butter beans, tomatoes, and more, well into her late 80s.
If asked to describe herself, she would likely respond “tough,” as this was a trait she felt was essential to life. Others, however, might tell you that she was also voted as Hurricane’s Most Beautiful while in high school, or that she was the unofficial - but unanimously elected - Mayor of Pontotoc Nursing Home. They would likely tell you that she was a devoted and longtime member of Victory Baptist Church in Pontotoc. They would definitely tell you how sweet, gentle, kind, and loving she was to everyone around her.
Faye was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her siblings. She will be mourned, greatly missed, and forever remembered by her children; her grandchildren Allison Roye Huey (Trey), Brent Robbins (Nicole), Jackson Roye, Will Robbins (Meagan), Austin Roye (Kelcey), Hart Robbins Loftis (Griff), Ivy Robbins; and her great-grandchildren Ella Huey, Sailor Huey, Mia James Huey, Webb Huey, Aldric Roye, and John Quay Robbins.
For those lucky enough to have known her and who want to say goodbye, her visitation will be held on Friday, October 25th, 2024 at Victory Baptist Church from 10-12, with services directly after. Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc is honored to assist the Robbins family with the arrangements.
