David L. “Bud” Hester passed away Friday, March 22 at NMMC in Tupelo, MS. He was born on September 27, 1939 in Roxie, MS. His parents were Lee and Jewel (Butler) Hester. He lived in Clarksdale, MS most of his adult life.
While in Clarksdale, he served at Clarksdale Baptist Church as a deacon, a driver in the Church Bus Ministry, taught Sunday school, and served on various committees. He was also an assistant Scout leader and a Mason. Bud was owner and operator of Hester Oil Company in Clarksdale. After moving to Pontotoc, MS, he was owner and operator of Ms. Ann Trucking. He was also a member of First Baptist Church of Pontotoc. Earlier in life, he was an advisor for the Junior Achievement Program in Jackson, MS.
Bud is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; his son David, his daughter Karen Hill and his son-in-law, Brad Hill. He leaves three grandchildren; Hannah and Sarah Hill, and Lee Hester. He also leaves a sister Billie Smith from Dallas, TX, and his nieces and their husbands: Teri and Rick Pond of Houston, TX and Stacy and Jeff Warren of Dallas, TX. Bud is also survived by his great nieces: Stephanie Simoneaux, Whitney McIntosh, Emily Landers, and Amanda Reese. He leaves a great nephew, Travis Warren.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Guin “Sonny” Hester, and his niece Gwendolyn Reese.
Visitation will be Monday at the funeral home from 10:30 to 12 noon. Services will be at Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc, MS, on Monday, March 25, 2019 at 12 noon, with Dr. Ken Hester officiating. Burial will follow in Pontotoc Memorial Gardens. Browning Funeral Home is honored to assist the family.
