William John Smith, former president of the Florida Nurseryman & Growers Association and 4 year navy man, has passed away July 2, 2017 at the age of 86. He was born June 6, 1031 in Niles, Michigan, but lived these past 60 years in Florida. He showed great pride in his community as an active part of FNGA, Jaycees, short term member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge. But he also took an active role in making the world around him brighter by way of his work as a 3rd generation nurseryman, and building a loving family.
He is survived by that family: his wife of 62 years Alice; two daughters Kimberly (Bruce) and Karen (Sam); four grandchildren Heather (Blair), Jason (Flavia), Samantha, and William Raymond; and two great-grandchildren Logan and Hayden. As well as his sister Audrey.
For all his work bettering and taking part in his community, serving his country with bravery, and making his way through life nothing meant more to him than his family. And while celebrating what he gave we will never forget the generosity and selflessness with which he gave. His time, his wisdom, and every smile he shared with us his family, and those around him. His loss is felt greatly, but he will never leave our hearts.
