Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 22 years, Dorothy Jarvis of Leesburg, FL, his four sons, Richard L. Jr., (Barbara) of Grayson, GA, Lawrence S. (Suzanne), of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Patrick E.(Rebecca) of Chattanooga, TN, and Donald E. (Diane), of Marietta, GA, his sister, Sharon K. Hall of Clearwater, FL, his 6 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by his first beloved wife, Helen, his brother Donald, his grandson, Lawren, and his parents, Cretta and Ernest of Holiday, FL.
Richard was born on November 7, 1928, in Albuquerque, NM, to parents Ernest and Cretta. His family later moved to Indianapolis, IN, where he graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in 1946. In November of that same year, Richard married his first wife, Helen. In 1954 Richard moved his family to Miami, FL where he became a craftsman printer and later a salesman in the same industry. The couple had four sons, Rick, Larry, Pat, and Don, and remained married for 47 years until Helen’s death in 1993.
Richard married Dorothy Pitman on July 13, 1996, and in another month would have celebrated 23 years of marriage to her. In 2001, Richard and Dorothy retired to Leesburg, FL, where they both spent many years working part-time at Disney World.
Richard was a great family man and a loving father. He was a social, active man, deeply involved in his church for the majority of his life. He enjoyed square dancing, playing cards, and watching his grandchildren participate in sports activities. His family and friends will always remember him as a caring and giving man.
A funeral is scheduled for Richard on Saturday, June 15, 2019, at Kraeer Funeral Home, 200 W. Copans Rd., Pompano Beach, FL, 33064. The Reverend John Bopp, of New Life Presbyterian Church in Minneola, FL will officiate. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Richard’s life.
