Joseph J. Scott

Scott, Joseph J., 83, of Pompano Beach, FL and Bryson City, N.C., joined our Lord in Heaven on July 18th following a brief illness. Mr. Scott, originally from Schenectady, N.Y. had resided in Pompano Beach since 1957. Mr. Scott was a long time employee of the Federal Government and the Pompano Park Racing and Casino organization. A veteran of the Korean conflict, he served his country proudly as a member of the United States Army. As a young man Mr. Scott competed in many sports, and continued to play softball into his later years. During the 60’s and 70’s Mr. Scott was a head coach for many Pompano Beach youth athletic teams in baseball, basketball, and football. His youth teams won numerous city and county championships. As a coach Mr. Scott was a positive influence on many young men whom he taught to play the game with passion and integrity. In his retirement years he returned to coaching as an assistant coach for his granddaughter’s softball teams, and enjoyed watching her compete in High School and USTA Junior women’s tennis events. Mr. Scott, along with his wife, was a supporter of many Animal Rights groups locally and nationally, along with supporting all U.S. Veterans organizations. Mr. Scott is preceded in death by his father, mother, and older brother. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Jose; sons: Alan and Joseph (Mary);,a niece, Lisa; a nephew, Bruce, in the U.S.A. and a nephew, Richard, in Great Britian; and the light of his life….his granddaughter, Christine. Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 23rd at the funeral home from 2-4 and 6-8pm. The funeral service will also be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 24th at 10:00 followed by interment at Forest Lawn North. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in his name to the not for profit organization PAWS-Placing Animals Within Society-of Bryson City, N.C. (pawsbrysoncity.org).
