Lauderdale-By-The-Sea, Fla – Joseph Francis Michaels, III, 80, of Lauderdale-By-The-Sea, passed away on Monday,
August 18, 2014, at home, surrounded by family. Joe was born October 12, 1933, in Loogootee, IN, to parents Joseph
Francis Michaels II and Juanita Seals. Joe graduated from the United States Navy Hospital Corp. School, Bureau of
Medicine and Surgery in March of 1952. Joe went on to serve in Japan and Korea. While based in San Diego he met
his future wife, Sylvia, to whom he was married for 59 years until her death in 2012.Joe founded the family business,
Michaels Plumbing, where he mentored his sons and several friends. He went on to work for and retire from Broward
County as a Plumbing Inspector. Joe loved to fish off the shores of Connecticut’s Montauk and Block Island, stop for a
drink at the Pequot House on Fishers Island. After moving to Florida he bought the family boat “The Office”. If he wasn’t
working he was taking the kids fishing off Hillsboro Beach or crossing over to Bimini for a cold Kalik and a plate of Momma
Hatties conch fritters.He is survived by and was father to Martin, James, and Sharon; father-in-law to Debbie, Dona, Gary
and Tom; grandfather to Christina and Aaron Buerosse, Michael Waldo and Amy Caldwell, Julie and Dallas Nickels, Barrett
Michaels, Anthony Bell, Christopher Bell, Roxanne and Chris Zomper; great-grandfather to Sebastian, Logan, Dallas Jr., Dylan,
Annabella, Natalie, Breanna, Blake, and Aiden; many beloved nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his half-sister, Sister
Mary Sarah. Service will be held Saturday, August 23, 2014 at Forest Lawn North, 200 West Copans Road, Pompano Beach, FL
Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., followed by the service and burial.
