John was born on July 5, 1949 in Kansas City, Missouri, to Robert Howard and Alice (Lindey) Howard.
Shortly after high school, he moved to South Florida where he worked various jobs before attending the police academy. His first active duty was as a patrolman with the Wilton Manors PD, followed by Miami Metro Dade Police, and Plantation PD. He went on to become a Broward County Sheriff, working as a forensic investigator. He worked for the BSO until his retirement in 2009.
He married Ursula Keller, the love of his life in 1991. Together, they traveled all over the world and treasured each other’s company. John had many activities he enjoyed throughout his life including gardening, traveling, reading, playing his guitar, restoring his Alpha Romeos, volunteering at his church, spending time with his many nieces and nephews, and caring for his three dogs – Oliver, Olivia, and Minnie.
John is survived by his wife of 32 years, Ursula (Keller) Howard, his sister, Ann (Mike) Evans of Flagler Beach, five nieces, two nephews, and thirteen great nieces and nephews, all of whom thought the world of him.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
A funeral mass for John will be held Tuesday, August 8, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church, 11 SW 11th St, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33315.
