John Robert Batdorf Sr., 82 born November 29, 1932 in Reading PA., in 1968 moved to South Florida and has resided in Pompano beach for some 35 years. Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Mentor, Relative and Friend! Survived by beloved wife Gina Pica Batdorf; Sons John Batdorf Jr. (Melissa), David Batdorf,(Vivian); Mark Batdorf,(Sheila); Grand Children Mark Batdorf Jr.; Aimee Batdorf; Sister, Shirley Miller; two Step Daughters’, four Step Grand Children and eight Step great grandchildren; Pre-deceased by His parents John Robert Napoleon Batdorf and Ellen Mae Batdorf; Sister Jean Stauffer and step granddaughter Christina Nelson.
John passed away, Wednesday February 11, 2015 after courageously fighting a terminal illness. John Batdorf was an avid fisherman where he was a long time member of the Sports Fisherman of Broward (SOB). John enjoyed many years of sports fishing winning and or placing in many tournaments including a world record catch. John also enjoyed many years of SCUBA diving and bringing many lobsters home to share with family and friends. John was also very much involved in Boy Scouts as a Scout Master with his three son’s John Jr., David and Mark sharing many memories of Jamborees and exciting camping adventures including Philmont. John loved traveling and cruising with his wife, family and friend’s more than thirty five cruises. Twenty five of those cruises were with one cruise line alone.
John Joined the United States Navy in 1950, where he served his country during the Korean War on the USS Betelgeuse. John received a National Defense Service Medal as well as a Navy Occupation Medal with European Clasp. John Honorably served his country for four years.
John devoted thirty four years to Allied Signal Areospace (Bendix) in their Air Transport Division. John’s exemplary dedication to his career has been handed down generation by generation. During his time with Allied Signal, John made many lifelong friends who will cherish his memory forever. John retired in 1993 to move on the next phase of his life…..his passions for fun, travel, fishing, family and friends.
John has left a lasting legacy with his family and friends that will shine on through the generations. His zest for life was full; He will be greatly missed by all.
