Halsey Ford Smith, Jr.

Ford was born in Glen Ridge, N.J., and graduated from Cheshire Academy in Connecticut and then Drake College in South Florida. After graduating from college Ford enjoyed a life long career with Florida Power and Light Corporation as a distribution design engineer and construction liaison with the Florida department of Transportation. Even after his retirement the company lured him back as a consultant and to train new engineers. To quote one of his fellow colleagues, Dave Douglass “Ford Smith was our John Madden of FPL”, “he was a legend”.

Ford lived his entire adult life in South Florida and enjoyed golf, travel, biking, and most of all his adopted college football team the Miami Hurricanes. He was a long-time season ticket holder and attended many of their away games all over the country. He was a volunteer at the First Presbyterian church of Ft. Lauderdale and also the Bonnet Historical house and Art Museum. In his later years his passion was his two Grandsons, Connor and Justin, who called him "Big Daddy", just like he called his grandfather. He loved traveling to Georgia to watch his two grandsons compete in football, lacrosse, and gymnastics.

He was preceeded in death by the love of his life, wife Robin; his parents, Halsey and Beverly Smith; his loving and supportive in laws, Robert and Lorraine Schwenk; and his brother-in-law, Michael Coughlin.

Surviving is his daughter, Tracy Moore (husband, Brandon); grandsons, Connor and Justin; sisters, Beverly Coughlin, Nancy Wunder (husband, Greg), and Allison Walsh (husband, Jim); brother, Craig (wife, Lauren); 8 nieces and nephews; and 12 great nieces and nephews who all loved their Uncle Fordie.
