For those of you who did not have the pleasure of meeting Glenn, I just want you to know that he was a wonderful man, an awesome father and pop pop to our 6 children and 9 grandchildren; he loved and cherished each and every one of them with that huge heart of his.
I had never met anyone like him; he was truly a God send for all of us. He loved life; he was so full of life, always so happy, if anyone asked him how he was doing his answer was always "outstanding" even if he was feeling bad. That always amazed me, I wanted so bad to be like him in that way.
You will always be in my heart and mind; you taught me so much about life; how to stay happy and strong even when things seemed so bad with all of the sickness that you had endured in our 10 short years of marriage, the way that you would go out and play golf with your dad while your body was so sick….. The doctor found that truly amazing, funny how he didn't believe you, no way you could do that as sick as you were! By the Grace of God and that wonderful outlook of yours you just kept trucking along no matter what life hit you with.
You were and will always be the man of my dreams, the man that I used to pray about every night for many years…even though I had not met you yet. You are the love of my life Glenn Walden and I can honestly say that my life has been forever changed because of you. I know I will be seeing you again someday in Heaven and that you will be watching over us and wanting to come back and say "no Cat, you're not doing it the right way"!!!! You were so funny "gomer". No matter how irritated you were with me all I had to do was call you gomer and you would laugh ?
Our little Micayla is who she is because of you Glenn, you taught her how to wake up happy every day and to have a great sense of humor. She is so smart, just like her pop pop. Pop Pop's girl he would say to her.
It is evident why God gave you to us even for such a short time. You do not need to worry about her my darling, I promise you that we will take good care of her just the way you did for these past 6 years and we will talk about you every day, you will never be forgotten my love.
I love you my darling husband forever and always,
Your loving wife
You'r Loving Parents
Glenn was born on October 9, 1961. He wasn't in a big hurry as his mother went in to labor at 7am but he decided to make his entrance at 11:45pm [always at his leisure], with a big smile and a full head of hair. Glenn was a wonderful baby, he slept through the night and in the morning would wake us with his smiles and his cooing. Glenn was a pleasure and he was a good traveler always finding something to interest him. He loved hats and a baseball cap was his favorite.
A sport enthusiast from the get goes, Glenn loved to play golf and at the age of 2 picked up a club and would hit golf balls in the yard.
On his first day of school Mary was worried he would be scared but when the van came to pick him up, the door opened and he said goodbye and jumped right in, always demonstrating that independent streak.
In the first grade he drew a picture for his mom of himself with a big heart and it said "I love you Mom" and he always signed everything Glenn W. [because there was two Glenn's in the class].
On his first communion, we came in to the church and Glenn never told us that he was going to be the Lector, to our surprise there he was in front of the whole congregation reading the scriptures.
Glenn was always a good student all through school and his Spanish teacher loved him, he played football and basketball and graduated in 1979. Glenn attended many dolphin games with his childhood friend Jeff and tailgating was always in order.
Although the plan was for Glenn to go to college, he decided that music was his passion and he traveled as a sound technician through the Caribbean for about a year. He came home penniless and with a beard and got back in the real world. He later married and had 2 sons [Matthew and James] who were the love of his life.
Glenn was passionate about music, golf, macaroni & butter and the Miami Dolphins. He was always quite the chef after learning a few things at Friday's. He made a good chili, BBQ and tasty salmon cakes. He loved Banana bread, and pavlova.
Very dear friends from Kilkenny Ireland would come to visit us each year and Glenn would always stop by for a hearty breakfast of scones and brown bread.
Glenn married the love of his life Cathy and with her he gained a daughter and later a granddaughter who he absolutely loved and cherished. At the age of 42 Glenn suffered a heart attack and was told that due to extensive damage he was a transplant candidate. During this long recuperation his granddaughter Micayla seemed to give Gleen hope and together they created a bond that was inseparable.
In October 2010 he received a new heart. While he was recovering he used to walk over the 14th street bridge and notice a Help Wanted sign for a Bridge Tender. He did get that job and liked it more than any other; he could walk to work and his favorite time was to watch the sunrise. Glenn worked his way up to supervisor and his supervisor John Ellis, became a close friend to Glenn. Always looking for more to do, Glenn got a part time job at Starbucks and he fit in well with the rest of the crew.
On February 11 Glenn went to Jackson Memorial to find that his heart was in rejection and he fought the good fight for 34 days, but sometimes that is not enough. Glenn passed on March 17.
Glenn was a loving son, husband, father, brother, grandfather, Uncle, cousin, and a wonderful friend to all.
From: Ed your Loving Brother
Glenn touched many lives as he traveled this path we call life. My brother was my mentor in many ways. He is also one of the few people I could confide in. he never seemed to judge and he was always seemed to have some good advice ready for me. We shared many of the same interests like fish, turtles, golf, and as a kid he taught me about music and we would listen to Billy Joel and the Police.
He had this trait where he could always turn a dull party around; he always had that punch line or one-liner ready to go. I always admired how he was able to engage in a conversation with just about anybody.
My brother was a character, he knew how to be serious and he also knew when to joke around. Glenn did great impressions and did a mean "Sponge-Bob", which is the last memory I will always have of him [when we brought Emily and Micayla up to see him]. We could be very immature when we got together and maybe banter a little bit, but that's just because he was he was able to maintain a positive attitude and he had this incredible presence about him with a twinkle in his eyes.
Glenn was smart; I remember that as a child he would sit there and read the encyclopedia Britannica. He loved music and rather than go to college, he chose to travel and be a sound tech for a band that was supposed to be famous one day. My Bro was pretty cool!! Glenn loved technology and was pretty savvy at a computer and especially on his blackberry, maximizing all the apps to his advantage. Glenn knew odd facts and was always researching the next topic; even when in the hospital he had o know every detail of every test, procedure and medication. Was he a little disorganized in how he did things? Probably, but that was the beauty of it, sort of like the nutty professor at his best.
I will miss my brother; the 3 of us we were supposed to grow old together, but I also know that he would want us to live every minute of every day to the fullest. Glenn was thankful for all the special moments that he shared with each of us; and with that, I hope that my brother will continue to live on within our hearts and minds.
