Evi Rebecca Tamm-Viks was born on August 18, 1935, the year which her own daughter didn't know for many years, as she was always very evasive about her age. She was born in Tartu, Estonia, and had one brother. She and her mother fled Estonia during WW2 and were separated from her brother for decades and never saw her father again. Slowly she and her mother Erna Tamm made their way to America, living at a displaced persons camp at one point and having a choice at one time between the U.S. and Britain, choosing America because it was known for its freedom and opportunities for social mobility. They settled in Chicago, where her mother managed to afford private Catholic and later finishing school. Evi met Marco Hans Lombard on a trip with her friends to Florida, where it was love at first sight. They were married for ten years and she gave birth to her son Mark Lombard and first, daughter Tiina Lombard. Afterwards she worked tirelessly as a single mom, raising her two children on her own from 1970 onwards. Her daughter became a professor and her son a successful construction supervisor. She married a second time, her old friend Jacob Viks, an architect, and they lived in both Lake Forest Chicago and Eleuthera in the Bahamas. She said these were her happiest years. She passed away after a long illness on July 5, 2024. Mrs. Viks leaves behind two grandchildren, Hunter Deakman and Sophia Lombard. We know she is an angel in heaven and reunited with her mother, father, long-lost brother and her many, many dear friends.
