Emigdio Martinez, age 80, passed away as a result of heart complications on the afternoon of July 6th, 2023, surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren, who are deeply saddened and heartbroken by his passing.
Emigdio is survived by his wife, Luz Martinez, of 52 years; his children, Emigdio and Niurka Martinez; his grandchildren, Emily Martinez, Angelica Garzon, Frank Martinez, and Cynthia Garzon; his siblings, Andres, Geraldo, Berta, and Isabel Martinez; and his daughter-in-law Lisset Martinez.
Emigdio Martinez was born on August 5th, 1942 in Antilla, Cuba, to parents Jesús Cáceres and Dulce Maria Pérez. He grew up in Cuba, ambitious and eager to make his mark on the world. In October 1979, he immigrated to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Emigdio came to the United States with the aspirations of providing better opportunities and a better life for his children and future grandchildren. Emigdio took on jobs as an electrician, which he dutifully performed for over 30 years, among other projects in construction he would embark on around his house and community. His greatest goal was to make others happy, and he did so by helping them with anything they needed, from numerous forms of handiwork to a simple laugh.
Emigdio was above all a family man and a loving father. He married Luz Chavez on February 20th, 1971, and the couple had 2 children together, a son and daughter. Although his life presented challenges, he would always be the light in every room he walked into. His children recount that he successfully did everything in his power to make sure his family stayed afloat and worked towards a prosperous future to achieve that goal. His daughter, Niurka, recounts that despite the financial difficulties that were prevalent in their lives, they always had food on the table and were able to enjoy their lives to the fullest. In the later half of his life, Emigdio’s greatest pride and joy was the success of his grandchildren. As a result of his efforts, his children and grandchildren have been able to pursue higher education, an achievement he would mention whenever anyone spoke to him; his children hold advanced postgraduate degrees and are professionals in their field.
Emigdio was a loving, humorous, active man who was deeply involved in taking care of his family. His passions embodied the definition of an active individual with a love for life itself. He took pride in arduously tending to his garden, completing countless handiwork projects to add life and utility to his home, and performing acts of service for anyone who would be receptive to them. His family and friends will always remember him as an exuberant and positive force to all he came across; as the family proclaims, words truly cannot capture the aura Emigdio radiated and the man he was.
A funeral is scheduled for Emigdio on July 9th, at 9:00 am at Kraeer Funeral Home & Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, officiated by Deacon Nestor Hernandez. Loved ones are welcome to attend and celebrate his life. The family wants to thank all those who have come to celebrate the life of Emigdio Martinez.
