Doug and I shared the ups and downs of life for over 30 years as close friends.  He will always be one of my best buddies, even in hospice we laughed to the end!  Nobody like Doug, you just could not keep him down.

Doug was a gentle and kind soul if there ever was one.I met Doug 30 years ago when he was a whip smart aide to then newly elected Palm Beach County Commissioner Dorothy Wilken. I was a pretty green but ambitious news reporter for the Sun Sentinel and I often looked to Doug for knowledge and perspective on issues. He enjoyed providing background and no matter the subject he always made it sound interesting. He talked slowly, deliberately, and with a touch of gentleman Southerner. Doug would leave the office of the commissioner and move on to other aspects of serving our community, in housing first I believe and later the Community Foundation. Inevitably, as time went on, I would run into Doug, one place or another, in most recent years at the Democratic Party meetings. I will miss his intellect, hearty laugh and above all a warmth that comes with genuinely caring. My thoughts are with his family.

I used to hang with Doug during our time together at FAU.  He was a neat character who we all used to imitate because of his interesting speaking style and laugh.  I didn't see him for many years, but when I would get together with old FAU buddies, we'd always bring Doug up.  Rest well, bud.

so sorry to hear of Doug's passing. we were friends long ago when we were "young" democrats and had crazy mutual friends-- long before he got married. He was a great man, warm, funny, generous. We will all miss him.

I "met" Doug through Donna's sharing stories of precious moments spent with Doug and other family members. We're so sorry for your loss.

Doug worked for me years ago when we were both at Palm Beach County Housing and Community Development - pre-parenthood for both of us.  He was smart, funny, gracious, caring and so very dedicated to serving those less fortunate living in distressed neighborhoods.  I know his passing will be mourned by many but his works of goodness will never be forgotten.  My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and loved ones.

A friend and colleague, Doug was compassionate, intelligent and a kind soul who loved his children deeply. He will be missed but he has certainly left his mark. Rest in peace, dear friend.

My family and I were introduced to Doug through his children, Misha and Sousha.  My daughter Mary spent countless nights over at the Pugh home on the trampoline and in the pool. 

Doug was always there, as a doting dad to not only his children, but my daughter as well. 

We will remember Doug as a soft spoken, gentle and gracious man. 

And,although we are truly sorry for his passing, we know that he is no longer in pain, and now, is in heaven helping all the other angels out.

We will miss you Doug, and our thoughts and prayers to the family.

I worked with Doug for many years on homeless and housing issues. He was a smart, caring, compassionate soul who could always make me smile. Doug, you did God's work here on earth...now enjoy your heavenly rewards.  My prayers to all who love and grieve this wonderful man.

I had the great pleasure of working with Doug at Palm Beach County, which was my first job out of college. I doubt I have met a more gracious, kind and witty colleague since. Doug's glass-half-full optimism and humor helped shape my professional temperment since, and I am eternally grateful for his wisdom. We lost touch throughout the years but I had the pleasure of seeing him at an industry function a couple of years ago and he was quintesentially still "Doug". Doug was a passionate, progressive person and his loss is very profoundly felt by all who used for work with him in Palm Beach County. May he be blessed with an eternity worthy of the fine man he was in this life, and may God bless his family.

I am sorry for your loss. Doug knew my son through Sylvan and he liked working with Doug. A kind man.
