Dorothy Victoria Jorge 2/6/29-5/15/18. Loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Vicky was born one of 6 siblings in Havana, Cuba to Dorinda and Ramon Pelaez. At age 16 she met and started dating “with chaperones” her first and only love Rolando. They were promised to each other for 12 years. She was an intelligent, feisty, vibrant match for Rolando and he was smart enough to marry her her In 1957 after she completed pharmacy school in Havana. In 1958 they had their first son Richard. Narrowly escaping Fidel Castro’s regime in 1960 she was never to see her parents again. She faithfully followed Rolando to Cleveland Ohio where he completed his residency in Orthopedic Surgery while she raised Richard. In 1965 they settled in Florida where they had Phillip and Roland and remained to raise their 3 sons.
Big believers in education, Vicky restudied and became a Board Certified Pharmacist in Florida. She practiced a short time before choosing to raise her 3 sons as her FULL time calling. She was a fully devoted, fearless, unapologetic mother, wife, and eventual grandmother to Danielle, Dylan, and Dane. She was outspoken, strong-willed and unafraid to speak up when necessary which proved to be very often. She was loyal and always expected loyalty in return. Leaving her parents, siblings and home behind in Cuba, she taught all those around her by example to speak your truth, express your love for your family and make sure to enjoy life today for you never know what awaits. Balancing her outgoing and outspoken persona she was a lover of life and music. She played the piano and Flamenco guitar and was blessed with a profound and beautiful voice. Her friends would often request she sing at their get-togethers because her voice was soulful and touching. She always said “whatever you sing you have to feel.”
Though she struggled with dementia for many years she was to her last days always present in the moment and knew she was surrounded by loved ones. She will be missed by many as she was a bright light to all who knew her. Her legacy is the lessons she taught the many who loved her and especially her children and grand children: Richard, Phillip, Roland, Danielle, Dylan, and Dane.
