Dereck is survived by his wife, Anne Oldham; children, Simon Oldham
Dereck was born in Burnley, England to Frederick and Amy Oldham. He started working as a butchers apprentice at age 15 and joined the Royal Navy in Dec 1944 and served until 1947. He married Anne Oldham, who was a supervisor at the telephone exchange, in 1953. They moved to Fort Lauderdale in 1953 where Dereck began working as a butcher and later manager of a meat department for Pantry Pride. The couple adopted their son Simon in 1970. His son remembers him as a kind, patient, and loving father who encouraged them to pursue his goals.
Dereck was an avid tennis player and enjoyed singing and staying active even in his later years. He was a gentle, kind, compassionate and loving individual who had a wonderful sense of humor and a slight mischievous streak. He was an active member of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society which he joined along with his wife and son, a member of St. Nicholas Church and he volunteered for the Lighthouse Point Police Department for several years.

A Memorial Service will be held at St. Nicholas Episcopal Church, 1111 E Sample Road, Pompano Beach, FL 33064, on Saturday, June 24th, 2023 at 11:00 AM.
