Those who were closet to him affectionately nicknamed him “Pigeon” in addition he was “Uncle Pigeon” to a host of adopted nephews, nieces and young people whom he mentored during his lifetime.
In addition he was called “Jim” by his sister, Sandra “Poo” Scott and called “Uncle Jim” by his nephew, Randall Scott.
“Pigeon” was a kind and gentle soul. He was never one to stir up a controversy with anyone. He was a quiet, gentle man who was committed to a life of service to others.
As his beloved parents, Walter Sr. and Mary Dickerson grew older their only son Pigeon, was their protector and a watchdog over them, he was always looking out for them.
His own home has always been a refuge and a safe haven for countless family and friends over the years.
Countless young people grew up under the unfailing love and guidance of “Uncle Pigeon”.
Uncle Pigeon showed them by example how to love, cherish and be truly devoted to someone that you truly love. He portrayed this in his own marriage to his high school sweetheart and wife of thirty-four years, Shara Dickerson, the woman he loved, cherished and adored until the day he died.
His life was built and centered around God, his wife, his daughter Elisia Nicole and his granddaughter, Bre’Ann Frazier.
He served faithfully as a deacon and choir member at “The Calvary Missionary Baptist Church” in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Pigeon spent the last days of his life with his church family and friends and was very happy. He will forever live on in the hearts and memories of all who came into contact with him and whose lives he touched.
We will forever honor you Pigeon, we’ll always love you and we thank God for allowing us to have you for 61 years.
