Daniel V. Krysa, age 91, passed away on Sunday, May 8, 2016 following complications from surgery. He was raised in Egypt - Whitehall Township, Pennsylvania, the son of Daniel and Kateryna Krysa (nee Dziadyk). He graduated from Whitehall High School where he was the captain of the baseball, basketball and football teams his junior and senior years. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp during WWII, serving with the VMF 217 in the Pacific Theatre. He participated in the Consolidation of the Northern Solomons, the Bismarck Archipelago Operations, the Defense of Piva Yoke, and the Capture and Occupation of Guam. He served in the Marine Corp Reserve and was activated for duty during the Korean War during which time he was commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant. Following the war, he graduated from Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pa. and married Anna Kishpan of Bethlehem, Pa. Along with their two young daughters, the Krysas moved to Miami in 1955. Danny coached Pony League Graduate baseball in N. Miami, and was instrumental in obtaining proper uniforms for the team. As a proud member of the original faculty, Danny enjoyed teaching Social Studies, History, Government and Economics at Miami Norland Senior High School. Following his and Anna’s retirement he relocated to Pompano Beach, FL. He remained an active member of the Miami Ukrainian community, notably the Ukrainian American Club of Miami and Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church where he enjoyed singing tenor with the church choir. Ties to family and friends were important to Danny his entire life. He maintained relationships to this day with friends from elementary and high school, the Marine Corps and Miami Norland, and of course, his beloved Ukrainian community. He was a willing attendee of reunions far and wide, including those of his former students at Miami Norland. He was simply a good and decent man, a devoted and faithful husband, and the best father anyone could have had. Daniel is predeceased by his wife Anna, brother Michael, sister Mary and nephews Daniel and Gregory Golden, and William Hamilton. He is survived by his daughters Donna McVay (Gary) and Patricia Krysa, his cousin Anna Krysak Heck of Minneapolis, MN and numerous beloved nieces, nephews and friends. And of course, the Divine Miss Grace. Danny will be missed by all that knew and loved him. May his memory be eternal. Vichnaya Jomu Pamyat. Visitation followed by Parastas will be from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm Friday evening, May 13 at Kraeer Funeral Home, 200 N. Federal Highway, Pompano Beach, FL. 33062. Divine Liturgy takes place Saturday morning at 10:00 am at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church, 39 NW 57 Court, Miami, FL 33126 (Flagler St. and 57th Avenue). Burial follows at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Cemetary, 11411 NW 25 St. Miami, 33172 In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church or the Ukrainian American Club of Miami.
