A wonderful and loving husband, father and grandfather, Dr. Bronson J. McNierney entered the gates of heaven on October 11, 2015. Dr. McNierney is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Jane C. McNierney and his three adoring daughters, Pam Rauch (Ted) of Jupiter Inlet Colony, FL; Tammy Scrudders (Eric) of Lighthouse Point, Fl; Marci Coffey (Sam) of Fort Lauderdale, FL; and six amazing grandchildren, Jonah and Owen Scrudders, Bronson and Canyon Rauch, and Addison and Ava Coffey.
At 84 years old, Dr. McNierney was born on May 24, 1931, in Titusville, PA, to Leon and Eleanor McNierney, who predeceased him along with his brother Steven (Faye) McNierney and his sister Margaret (Joe) McPhillips. He is survived by one sister, Clara (Vincent, deceased) Doyle of McLean Va., and two brothers, William (Mildred) McNierney of Buffalo, NY and Jerry McNierney of Titusville, Pa.
Dr. McNierney and his family were loyal Lighthouse Point residents from 1969 until 1999 (until he and Jane moved to Hillsboro Shores) where he based his medical practice on Sample Road, in the building that still bears his name. Dr. McNierney was a respected board certified internist and gastroenterologist, which he considered to be his life’s calling, and was always so grateful that he could serve a useful purpose to others. He graduated from Georgetown University and Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, PA. He practiced medicine at North Broward Hospital from 1969-2008, and served as Chief of Staff in 1972. He will be remembered by so many of his patients and friends for his compassion, diagnostic skill and warm bed side manner. When Dr. McNierney closed his practice in 2008, he was missed by so many patients, but what continued to inspire him, was to try to help others, especially dear friends, who were suffering with illness, disease and aging. Prior to his retirement, Dr. McNierney for many years was a faithful weekly volunteer at the Salvation Army in Fort Lauderdale, where he provided medical assistance to those who were most in need.
In addition to his thriving medical practice, Dr. McNierney was an original member of St Paul the Apostle Church in Lighthouse Point and could be seen at 7:30 am mass on Sundays, usually in the front row pew on the right, for many years with his family as his children grew, then as his daughters were all married there, proudly had all six grandchildren baptized in the same church. He was an avid tennis player for many years, which he enjoyed with his entire family at Frank McDonough Park and the Lighthouse Point Yacht Club. He also thoroughly enjoyed many games of ping pong and other competitions with family and so many dear friends, although one of his favorites in most recent years included beating Jane in the game of Scrabble often. Bron was not only blessed with a wonderful family, but he and Jane were also surrounded by many special lifelong friends that they both will cherish forever.
A mass celebrating Dr. McNierney’s life will be held at St. Paul the Apostle Church in Lighthouse Point at 1 pm on Saturday, October 17, 2015. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to St. Paul the Apostle Church Parish Renovation "Lighting the Way" at 2700 NE 36th Street, Lighthouse Point, Fl 33064.
