Mr. Robert Reid (Jake) Johnston passed away peacefully at the Lakeshore General Hospital in the early evening hours Sunday, February 9th, 2014, in his 82nd year.Bob, otherwise known as "Jake", was born in Montreal, Quebec and was the son of Isabella and Robert Bruce Johnston. Growing up in Brownsburg Quebec, Jake was an enthusiastic, rough and tumble kid who was the center of many light hearted pranks around the school and community. Jake moved to Montreal to find employment and after a brief tenure with Canadair, became the longstanding treasured employee of Kraft Foods Ltd, until his retirement 40 years later.Jake was the proud father of his daughter Gail and his son, Scott. Jake remarried later in life to Hilda Cassidy, whose caring, warm and supportive nature guided him through to his latter years and stood by his side to the end.Jake's enjoyment in life centered around his family, the family cottage, and his round table of treasured friends. He was an enthusiastic fisherman and an avid sports fan, especially his "Habs" and football teams. He was tough and courageous and always had a very soft emotional side to round out his character. Jake admired and was extremely proud of his entire family and their accomplishments.Jake is survived by his younger brother Allan, (Beverly), and sister Beverly, as well as niece Kathy, (Russ) and family, nephews Bruce, (Andrea), and Craig, (Lois).Jake is survived by his wife Hilda and his daughter Gail (Bob) Barrett, and their three children Mark, Ryan, (Jodi), Dayna, (Jason) and three great grandchildren, McKenna, Ezekiel and Asher, his son, Robert Scott (Donna), and their two children, Sarah and Robert Braeden.Jake is also survived by his extended family, Bryan, (Karen & Brad), Debbie, (Brian), Alan (Moira), and his grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Britni, Sean, Jason, Jaclyn, Megan, Alison and Cameron.The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff on 4N, Dr. Laryea, and Piadad at the Lakeshore General Hospital. We would also like to extend a special thank you to the ICU unit and his nurse Pierre, for their exceptional compassionate care.A memorial service to celebrate Jake's Life will take place on Saturday, May 17th, 2014 from 2-4 p.m., at the Collins, Clarke, MacGillivray, White Funeral Home, Hwy 20, exit Cartier, Pointe Claire, Quebec.In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial donations to the West Island Palliative Care Unit., 265 Andre Brunet, Kirkland, Quebec.
