Raquel was born in Santo Domingo de la Calzada, España to the late Maximo Garcia and Marcela Janda. She came to Canada in December of 1963, to learn English and French. As life would take her on her unforgettable journey, she met her husband Javier Navarrete in 1967 and spent the last 54 years married to him and creating memories.
Raquel loved life, she was never afraid of a challenge and her amazing journey took her through many professions and quite a few adventures along the way. True to her nature, she always had a place at the table for a stranger in need, or a recently arrived family. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She especially loved to sing, paint and read, nobody could devour books as much as her. She read in all the three languages she embraced, Spanish, English and French. The one thing she enjoyed the most in life, was ice cream!! Boy did she love ice cream!!
For the last 10 years, she graciously fought Alzheimer’s, a battle she could not overcome.
Left to mourn are her husband Javier Navarrete, her children Raquel (late Adolfo), Xavier (Crystal), Alexander (Teresa) and her grandchildren Montana, Sophia, Amaya, Iñaki and Olivia. She will be thoroughly missed by all those who had the privilege to cross paths with her.
We would also like to thank the devoted staff of the Bayview Residence in Pointe-Claire, where Raquel spent the last 5 years of her life.
Visitation will take place on Saturday December 3rd, from 2:00-3:00pm at the MacGillivray White Funeral Home (222 Autoroute 20, Pointe-Claire, Quebec) followed by a memorial service in the chapel.
In lieu of flowers we would appreciate donations made to the Canadian Alzheimer Society or NOVA two organizations that are close to the Navarrete family's heart.
