February 9th 1929 – September 8th 2021
On Wednesday, September 8th, 2021 Maria-Anna van Leeuwenkamp passed away peacefully with her family at her side. Lovingly called “Riet” by her husband, Jan (died 2013) and soul mate; “Mom” by her 6 children – Harry (Martine); Mary (died 1994); Ted; Karen (Fred, died 2017); Ann (John) and Jack (Marie); “Oma” by her grandchildren – Jessica, Lianne (Jeremy and great-granddaughter Audrey), Evan, Julia (Pat), Tori, Yola (Oliver and great-grandson Mika), Thomas (Catherine) and Laura (Daisuke); “Riet or Tante Riet” by her very large extended family; and “Rita” by her friends and neighbours. She also leaves behind two sisters, Leny and Elly; and also her many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.
A dedicated homemaker, she was totally devoted to her husband, to her children, to her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. She was well known for her happiness and her positive outlook on life, as she lived with gratitude. She was one of 14 children and married into a family with 10 children, she was very proud of her family in The Netherlands and especially of the Canadian clan.
We would like to extend our thanks to the caregivers at the CHSLD Bayview in Pointe-Claire, especially Grace, Jeffrey, Angela, Cecilia and Jennifer. Because of the ongoing pandemic, there will be no visitation and the funeral will be a private affair. Thank you for your understanding. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer Society.
