It is with deep sadness that his wife and daughters announce the passing of John W. Meaney on November 14, 2021 at the age of 82.
John was the beloved husband of Evelyn Mills Meaney, adored father of Sharon Meaney, Colleen Meaney-Shaughnessy (Rodney) and Laurie Meaney, doting grandfather to Jonathan Meaney (Phuong), Cassidy Tobin, Jack Tobin and great-grandfather to Vyvy Ngo and Nia Meaney. John is also survived by his sisters, Alice Wells and Mary House.
John lived a life full of extraordinary experiences. His greatest pride was in serving the community of the City of Kirkland, Quebec, as Mayor from 1994-2013 and as city counsellor for 19 years prior to becoming Mayor. He was also very pleased and honoured to receive the Queen's Diamond Jubilee medallion for his contributions to Canada, to have been selected as the Grand Marshal for the 2008 St. Patrick's Day parade and as the 2012 Irishman of the Year.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Heart and Stroke Canada or a charity of your choice.
A very special thank you to the doctors and nurses at the Queensway Carlton Hospital in Nepean, Ontario who were exceptionally kind and attentive during his time with them.
