John Corrigan

March 19, 1923 – November 5, 2022

On November 5, 2022, Jack said his morning prayers and left us in the manner which he lived—quietly and peacefully.

Jack was born in New York City in 1923. When he lost his father at a very young age, he and his older brother Billy returned to live in Ireland and were raised by his Grand Parents. Billy was later killed in WW2. And, because of the war, Jack also lost contact with his mother, who had remained in New York, until they were briefly reunited in 1970, not long before her own death.

It was these early losses that instilled a fierce devotion to home and family.

In 1941, he met Norah, and thus began a 60-year adventure that would define them both. They were married in 1949, and in 1952 they immigrated to Canada and settled in Montreal where they built their home and family. Jack worked at the Hudson's Bay Company for several years while Norah worked in diffèrent accounting positions.

It was difficult to think of Norah and Jack apart. They were a team, and together they provided many laughs and good memories to those who met them.

When Jack lost his beloved Norah in 2006 after 56 years of marriage, he handled his grief in his own stoic manner.

For the next several years, he continued hosting family dinners, maintained his house and garden unassisted and, as a devout catholic, found comfort in the knowledge that he would soon be reunited with Norah.

He was a quiet man who was content in his own company and considered time in his own back yard to be the best vacation of all.

From the many messages that the family has received over the past few days, "Kindness and Humour" , are the qualities for which he was most recognized.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the devoted staff and Volunteers at the CHSLD Centre Bayview for their loving care and support of Jack where he was admitted after a stroke in 2019.

Even in these last few years, he continued to charm and garner the love of those caring for him.

Daddy (poppy) , you will never be forgotten!

Your loving children, Brendan, Brian (Rosalind), Shane: loving grandchildren Kaelin, Vanessa and great granddaughter Ella. Jack will also be sadly missed by many relatives and friends in Ireland.

Visitation will begin at 3 p.m., November 17 followed by a funeral ceremony at 5 p.m in the chapel at Collins Clarke MacGillivray White funeral home, 222 highway 20, (exit 49 Cartier) Pointe-Claire, (438) 803-5061. All are invited to a reception immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory to the Canadian Alzheimer’s Society or Centre Bayview would be greatly appreciated.
