Joseph Anthony Stabile left us in peace to be with the Lord on April 26, 2020, at the age of 82, in his Sebastian, Florida home. He was in the presence of his beloved family. He did not suffer on his last day, in spite of the physical struggle he experienced with his lungs during the final months. He was under the skilled care of his wife, doctors, children and the VNA Hospice Care of Vero Beach. Neither his mind nor his purpose ever ceased to be clear. He went forward with open eyes to join loved ones who had passed on before him.
Joseph is survived by his wife, Patricia Wynette (Morris) Stabile, of 60 years of marriage; his sisters Marianne DeSimone and Carol (Robert) Parsons; step-brother, Sal Marmora; his daughters Lynda (Robert) McIntosh and Rosanne (Brian) Fabricatore; his son Joseph M. (Karen) Stabile; his grandchildren, Robert McIntosh, Grace (Casey) Cathrall, Michael Compitello, Maria (Shaun) Gillen, Julia Fabricatore, Michael A. Stabile, Elise Stabile and Joshua Stabile; and great grandchildren. Mr. Stabile was also uncle, cousin and friend to many who continue to love him with open hearts. He was preceded in death by his father, Anthony Joseph Stabile in 1993; his mother, Rosalie (Guarino) Stabile, in 2006; and his oldest son, Anthony Stabile, in 2004.
Joseph was born in Manhattan, NY on April 12, 1938. He graduated from Plainedge High School (NY) in 1955, and then entered the U.S. Army in 1957. Joseph was a person of many talents. Early in his career, among other trades, he was a carpenter who helped build New York City’s skyline. Joseph was an accomplished businessman, and he always demonstrated natural leadership and organizational abilities. He was an owner and operator of Lake Ron Dry Cleaners (NY). Later, he managed warehouses on Long Island and in Albany, NY. After retirement, Joseph began a new passion assisting children with special needs in the Capital Region schools through the Albany-Schoharie Board of Cooperative Education Services (NY).
One of Joseph’s most proud roles during his life was to serve as a volunteer firefighter and captain with the Rocky Point (NY) Volunteer Fire Department for nearly 20 years. He is also remembered as a Third Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus. Joseph rose to president of the Italian American Community Center in Albany, NY. In Vero Beach, FL, Joseph was a key member and volunteer at the Italian American Civic Association. He was particularly involved with turning out wonderful meals and the management of the club kitchen.
Joseph lived with his wife and children in Rocky Point, NY from 1967 to 1987; then in Albany, NY from 1987 to 1999; then in Sebastian, FL, until the present day. Holidays and time spent with his family at the camp on Warner Lake were his most prized times; however, a close second would be the excursions he and Patricia experienced traveling the world together with good friends. They traveled across the United States and abroad to China, Russia, Egypt and Europe. He particularly enjoyed all-inclusive cruising adventures. He was sure, even at the end, he would be cruising again when “this is all over.” He showed off his stubborn ability to always work just a little bit harder and always search for a better solution right to the end of his full and vibrant life.
A service for family and friends will be announced in coming months. Memorial contributions may be made in the name of Joseph Anthony Stabile to the VNA Hospice House of Vero Beach, FL, to 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960, or online at https://www.vnatc.com.
