Dennis Lee Adams, age 74, of Coral Springs, Florida, passed away at Broward Health North Hospital on Sunday, September 10, 2017 surrounded by his family. He had been diagnosed the week before with inoperable brain tumors and remained in a comatose state.
Dennis was the son of the late Leroy Adams and Eleanor (Bautz) Adams. Dennis is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Judith Marie (Fuqua) Adams. They were married in Mt. Prospect, Illinois on June 11, 1966.
Dennis is lovingly remembered by his sister Terryl Coconate of Grays Lake, Illinois; son Jeffrey Adams (wife Carolyn), of Coral Springs, Florida; daughter Jennifer Abentroth (husband Lloyd) of St. Petersburg, Florida; 4 grandchildren: Jonathan (14), Carolina (10), Colton (3) and Chadwick (1); nephews Steven, Scott and Richard; nieces April and Lisa; their spouses, and many other loving relatives.
Dennis was born in Chicago in 1943. He was graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1961 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from the New York Institute of Technology, as well as a Master of Business Administration from Nova University in Florida.
Dennis served in the U.S. Army from 1962 until 1965. After a one-year tour of duty in the United States, Dennis spent from 1963 to1965 in Heidelberg, Germany where he worked in intelligence and had a top-secret clearance.
In 1965, Dennis began his long career at Motorola, Inc., in Franklin Park, Illinois; in 1969, he transferred to Florida, where he joined the Paging Division as one of the original employees of Motorola’s Sunrise, Florida facility. He left Motorola in 1983 to join Sensormatic, Inc., where he worked for more than 25 years until his retirement in 2008.
During his tenure with Sensormatic, Dennis traveled extensively throughout the world until being promoted to General Manager of Sensormatic, Shenyang, China, where he led more than 1,000 employees in a 4-story building, producing billions of security tags and labels. His final 10 years with Sensormatic (now Tyco, Inc.) were spent in China, with occasional trips back home throughout the years.
Dennis was an avid golfer and staunch Chicago Cubs/Bears fan; he was an ace at Pinochle and Texas Hold’em. He loved reading, doing crossword puzzles, listening to old-time Rock and Roll, traveling and spending time with his friends and family.
At Dennis’ request, there will be no formal funeral services; the family is planning a Celebration of Life ceremony to be held at a later date. In the meantime, the family requests that everyone remember Dennis as the funny, intelligent, witty, sometimes sarcastic, and always thoughtful man that he was. He loved his wife and family with all his heart; in the end, he went quickly, peacefully and painlessly with no regrets.
RIP Dennis; you will NEVER be forgotten!
