DAVID CLEMENT DOOLITTLE was born August 11, 1940 in Benton Harbor, Michigan and died at the age of 79 due to Parkinson’s and Lewy Body Dementia on June 11, 2020 in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. He resided with his wife, Lucky, at Brookdale Senior Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. David grew up in Chicago with his parents Clement and Esther. After college, he met his wife Lucky in Wheaton, Illinois and they married on July 8, 1961. They then moved to Lombard, Illinois where they raised their four children: Dawn Marie (Brosius), Cheryl Lynn (Dutro), James David, and Angelique Dee (Williams). David worked as a journeyman electrician for most of his career, then as a realtor, and finally served as a State Highway Maintainer the last 20 years of his working life. He delved into politics in Lombard and served as a Village Trustee for two terms, as a Bloomingdale Township Trustee for two terms, and also a term on the Board of their vacation property at Lake Holiday, Illinois.
David became very involved in local sports and, while raising their children, guided them in swimming, baseball, and/or football. He also found time to serve as a coach for other young men in baseball, two of whom moved on and participated on an AA division team. Dave was a fan and huge supporter of his family’s love of music and theater. Of great importance to Dave and the family is reliance on God through their Christian faith which has blessed and sustained them in times of life’s triumphs and challenges.
Dave is survived by his mother Esther, now 101, Lucky, his wife of 59 years (77), his brother Randy, (71) (Lila-deceased), his sisters Linda (68) (Dennis) Lareau, and Diane (66) (Walter) Suslowicz. Along with their 4 adult children and their spouses: Dan, Jeff, Stacy, and Danny, Dave and Lucky are also blessed with 6 grandchildren: Mandy, Alissa, Matt, Jon (Grace), Cameron, and Kelli and 3 great grandkids: Willow, Silas, and baby Dutro.
Dave and Lucky retired and moved to Juno Beach, Florida in 2000, residing there for 20 years, and enjoyed traveling to Europe, the Caribbean and the U.S. through Lucky’s travel business. Dave was known for his happy smile, his big blue eyes, and wearing one of his favorite western hats. Many knew him as “Cowboy Dave.”
