HENDERSON, William Robert "Bob", 90, passed away Monday, January 31, at home with family. He is survived by his wife, Billie; son, Glenn Henderson, daughter-in-law Lindsey of Costa Rica and grandson Jake Walters of Gainesville; daughter, Connie Henderson-Blaney, son-in-law, Bill Blaney, grandson, Ryan and granddaughter, Kristen of Tampa. He called Ryan his main man and beamed proudly at the sight of his stunning grand-daughter, Kristen. As a distinguished native of Plant City, born on October 23, 1921, Bob served three terms as a Plant City Commissioner, two terms as Plant City mayor and was on the Plant City Planning Commission. He was a past President of the Rotary Club and President of the Chamber of Commerce. Bob was a dedicated member of the Elks Club for 38 years and a member of Plant City, Lone Palm and Walden Lake country clubs. He was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and alumni of the University of Houston Cougars. Bob was a member and volunteer of Boy Scout Troop #5. He graduated from Plant City High School in 1941, played football on scholarship for University of Tampa and served his country as a member of the US Navy. While serving in the Navy and working on his Electrical and Mechanical Engineering degree at University of Houston, Bob met his wife of 64 years, Billie. Unfailingly, Bob served his country and his wife. He was a devoted husband and father. He cherished his wife Billie and often referred to her under the pseudonym of Miss Texas. Bob was the owner of a steel fabrication corporation, a co-founder of Hardee Maintenance and Acme WellPoint and was a board of director for Liberty Manor for Veterans. Bob loved God, his family, and country. Visitation will be held Friday, February 3, from 5p.m. - 7p.m. at Wells Memorial Funeral Home at 1903 West Reynolds Street, Plant City. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 4, at First United Methodist Church, 303 N. Evers Street Plant City. Following the service will be a reception at the Plant City Elks Lodge located at 1501 N. Alexander St, Plant City. Donations may be made to the Liberty Manor for Homeless Veterans.
