Becky was born on December 29, 1949 to William E Shurling and Mae E. Shurling in Plant City, Florida. After graduating from Plant City High School in 1967, she went on to study elementary education at the University of South Florida. She obtained her Master’s degree in Religious Education at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
After graduation from USF, she started her brief teaching career as an elementary school teacher in Hillsborough County and South Korea. After obtaining her Master’s degree she became the minister of Christian Education at East Naples Baptist Church. After a few years she resigned to become a homemaker, but she continued to actively volunteer for forty years. She was a choir member, soloist and praise team member, taught Sunday School, did after-school tutoring and was active in many areas. She served for several years on the Board of Trustees for the Florida Baptist Children’s Home (One More Child). She also wrote elementary Sunday School curriculum for Lifeway for several years.
In 1981, she met the love of her life, John Fager, and they wed in 1982.
She enjoyed being active at church, reading and growing orchids.
Becky was predeceased by her father William E Shurling, mother Mae E. Shurling and husband John Fager. She is survived by her twin brother James Shurling, sister Mary Banniza (Harry), nephew Phillip Shurling (Tatiana), niece Krystal Shurling, nephews Chance Shurling and Joshua Borders, and nieces Ellie Borders and Mariana Amite.
A visitation will take place on Thursday, July 11, 2024 from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. at Wells Memorial Funeral Home, 1903 W. Reynolds Street, Plant City, Florida 33563 with a memorial service to begin at 6:00 p.m.
