Linda Kay (Burrill) Barefoot, born in Saginaw, Michigan, on January 21, 1951, passed away on January 8, 2024. Linda was the first child of Jay and Ermestine Burrill. Linda married the love of her life, Charles Barefoot on February 8, 1974. Linda and Charlie traveled the southern states, Charlie trimming orange groves and Linda making sure his books balanced to the penny.
Now my oldest sister has gone to Heaven. I know that my mom, dad, and two brothers are all hugging once again, but what about me? I want to feel her hugs again. Linda was the first to go and get a job and she had the nicest clothes, and of course, I would sneak in and wear them as often as I could. I always looked up to my big sister. Linda, my cousin Pat, and I would always grab the leftover pancakes and go down to the fishing dock and feed the fish, and of course splash each other. Those were the happiest times.
Linda found her passion in cooking. Any holiday that would come up you would find her in the kitchen making great turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, and of course her famous cookies. Every person in the family would get a tin of their favorite kind; sugar, chocolate chip, chewy ginger molasses cookies, thumbprint cookies, snowball, oatmeal and raisin cookies and gingerbread cookies.
Unfortunately, Linda never had any children of her own, but that did not stop the love that she had in her heart. Linda opened up her heart and house to dozens of foster kids. When the children would find their forever home it would break her heart. Linda would mend her heart by opening up her arms and take in more children. God knew where to place the little ones that needed the most love. Three more boys came into Linda’s life, Kenneth, Jabari, and Oblin. She loved them so much when they came she could not give them up and ended up adopting them.
Linda will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
A visitation will take place on Friday, January 19, 2024 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at Wells Memorial Funeral Home, 1903 W. Reynolds Street, Plant City, Florida 33563 with a funeral service immediately following at 2:00 p.m.
Linda will be laid to rest in Savannah Hill Church Cemetery, Dunn, North Carolina.
