Dr. James R. Hoover, 72, of Plant City passed away on February 10th, 2014. Born December 30, 1941, Jim was a graduate of Plant City High School, the University of Florida, and the University of Maryland Dental School. Following graduation, he returned to Plant City for a life of service to the community he loved. He practiced dentistry in Plant City since 1968. He was a City Commissioner from 1978-1982. He taught Sunday School his entire adult life at both Eastside Baptist Church and Plant City’s First Baptist Church. He participated in mission trips abroad and community service projects here in the city. He was passionate about running, travel, ballroom dancing and his family. Dr. Hoover was predeceased by his father, Talmadge Hendry and his sister, Jeannette Hoover Preston. He is survived by his mother, Joyce Hendry; wife of 38 years, Beverly Reynolds Hoover; Children: Captain, U.S. Navy Retired Jim Hoover (Lisa), Petty Officer First Class, U.S. Coast Guard Retired Jerry Hoover, Karen Hoover Blocker (James), Sergeant First Class, U.S. Army Retired John Hoover (Sara), and Luci Hoover; 10 Grandchildren and 2 Great Grandchildren. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Florida Baptist Children’s Homes (http://www.fbchomes.org) or the Gideons International (http://www.gideons.org). The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 15th at Plant City’s First Baptist Church from 3:30-4:30 followed by a memorial service to celebrate his life at 4:30.
